Darlene loves to collaborate in performing and writing. She and Bill Sample have co-written a number of songs in the past few years and she is performing those plus her own and other collaborations. Their music is a bit bluesy, a bit funky with ‘smoky’ ballads.
Darlene performs these originals plus select standards as a Quintet, Quartet, Trio or Duo with a stellar group of musicians from Vancouver, BC.
These songs bring a fresh ‘take’ on the classic sounds of Jazz, Soul, and Funk that challenge traditional harmonies – blending the groove with complex chords, rhythms, and heart stirring melodies. While pushing musical boundaries, the songs are broadly accessible and offer lyrical insights into the life and times we live in. Her audiences are stirred to take on a social conscience to care for the world around them.
Darlene has performed at Frankie’s Jazz Club, Pat’s Pub, multiple Jazz Vespers (including St. Andrew’s Wesley) and will be playing at the Vernon Jazz Club in the Fall of 2017. She has also been part of a number of artist collaboration concerts performing alongside Marcus Mosely, Dee Daniels, Leon Bibb, Eric Bibb, Jane Mortifee, Ann Mortifee, Shari Ulrich, Jennifer Scott, Dawn Pemberton, Tom Pickett, Candus Churchill, the Hot Mamas.
She is currently working on a recording project of these original jazz and soul/funk tunes.
